The Garden Variety

From our garden.Sweet potatoes, radish and broccoli.
Broccoli is frightfully expensive and rare. One small head costs Rs 20 or more.Although we have to invest quite a bit in the manure, fertilizers and labour, its worthwhile getting your own fresh organically grown vegetables and its my Mom 's hobby and interest something which makes her tick.Wish I could send you all my dear friends vegetables and fruit from my garden.
I bought a single "dear" kiwi fruit from the Mall. And although its grown in cooler climes I 'll save the seeds and try growing it.

"And the earth brought forth vegetation ,plants yielding seeds after their kind; and trees bearing fruit with seed in them, after their kind; and God saw that it was good".
Genesis 1;12
(Bible...story of creation)

Wow, Amrita! What BEAUTIFUL vegetables, especially the broccoli! We have an organic garden in the summer, too, but our broccoli has never been that big. We usually have lots of corn, green onions, tomatoes, green beans, zucchini, pumpkins, and green peppers. My husband is a lot like your mother -- he loves to work in the garden. Eat extra veggies for me! I just wish I could taste some of your cooking, as I know it is delicious!

Hi Amrita,
It's wonderful to have your own vegetable garden. You can grow whatever vegetable you want and you can be sure that it's free from pesticides. I have grown some of my own vegetable patch before and it's so relaxing and gratifying to eat your own produce. Thanks for the wonderful post. God bless and have a pleasant and satisfying day always.

Are those the white variety of sweet potatoes?? I love them, I have to find a little place that sells them here......I wonder if there is a little grocery shop that specializes in veggies from other cultures here.....as white sweet potatoes are not the "norm" for Canada! I have seen them in a Jamaican grocery shop in Toronto...so it is possible...

Do you grow tomatoes? I'm so missing farm/garden tomatoes right about now. I refuse to buy store bought tomatoes. Looks like your mom has a green thumb for growing her garden.
