Street Scenes

Last week and on Monday I took Sheeba to the Dog Care Centre for shots.
She really enjoyed the rickshaw rides but threw a fit upon seeing the vet.
Holding on to an excited Sheeba, I took these photos from a moving rickshaw. These are the works of roadside artisans from a gypsy tribe.

They make idols of Hindu gods and goddesses, garden ornaments, animals and birds.

Below are some garish parrots with cows and elephants

These are religious figures. With the upcoming Hindu festival of Diwali they are very much sought after by people of the lower income group.
Well to do people and those with better taste shop in other places.
These days the Chinese have invaded the Indian market and China -made festival ornaments are being sold cheaper than the Indian made ones thus causing a setback to our local potters and artisans.

These are the un-painted , un-glazed figures.

Some gypsies sell hand-made flower bouquets.
Here is a coconut cart in front of a hospital we passed by. Fresh coconut water is very good for convalescence.

A look at Allahabad indeed. Streetlife. I am sending the link to my friend in Australia whose sons, half Australian, half Pahari nainitalis who have never been to India, to enjoy - a view of what is Allahabad, where they would have been this winter in fact.

Those idols are colorful... but sad. Oddly enough, you can buy some of these same figures at shops here across the world in Jacksonville.

What a wonderful view of life where you live! I just enjoy so much, seeing life in other places. Thank you for snapping these photos while on your errand. I've always wanted to ride or drive a rickshaw. They just make so much sense. Of course, here town is a long way away and I'd be very tired by the time I got there.
love, teresa

Oh, it is great photos! We can see this hindu figures. Nice to see, but they have no life.
It is good to know another kind of life.
Thank you for reminding us of the unreached people in your Sidebar.
I will pray for them.
Nothing is impossible to God.

Hi Ruth, hope you friend has a good trip to India.

Hi Julia, Allahabad has a colonial feel to it. Its fast turning into a concrete jungle though. That area is aound a large park laid out by the Brits.

I too believe that idols made of clay cannot & do not represent God in His awesomeness and majesty.John. Congratulations for the publication of your newest book.

Dear ladyfrom the woods, rickshaw rides are fun. My niece preferred those to her Dad 's fashionable car.

Very sensitive and good of your college Janet, they gave you a gift you would appreciate.

Hi Jeremy,my dog had to be tied up for the poor mongoose to gather up its courage to sneak away.
Mongooses are very bold creatures too.
