Red Tuesday - Lo How a Rose Er ' Blooming

Ladies dressed in red saris. Red seems to be the color of the season.

A velvety red rose from our garden.
Today on Internet Radio I heard another favorite Christmas carol of mine. This one called Lo How A Rose Er ' Blooming is from Germany.

We used to sing it in the Allahabad Choral Society.

The late Mrs Erica Harper (Presbyterian missionary) was the conductor. My sisters and I were the youngest members of the choir.

The wife of my Dad 's cousin Dr S (who is the head of the pathology dept. of the Medical College) sang the solo.

Lo, how a Rose er ' blooming from tender stem hath sprung!Of Jesse’s lineage coming, as men of old have sung.It came, a floweret bright, amid the cold of winter,When half spent was the night.
Isaiah ’twas foretold it, the Rose I have in mind; With Mary we behold it, the virgin mother kind.To show God’s love aright, she bore to men a Savior,When half spent was the night.
The shepherds heard the story proclaimed by angels bright,How Christ, the Lord of glory was born on earth this night. To Bethlehem they sped and in the manger found Him,As angel heralds said.
This Flower, whose fragrance tender with sweetness fills the air,Dispels with glorious splendor the darkness everywhere;True Man, yet very God, from sin and death He saves us,And lightens every load.
O Savior, Child of Mary, who felt our human woe,O Savior, King of glory, who dost our weakness know;Bring us at length we pray, to the bright courts of Heaven,And to the endless day!

Dear Amrita,
I also choose the song about the winter rose December 7th.
It's a wonderful song.
I never had the voice to sing those high keys.

Hi Amrita! I have enjoyed scrolling through your lovely pictures and posts today - sorry I haven't been able to visit in a week or so.

I, too, sang "Lo, How a Rose 'Er Blooming" in a choir when I was young. Such a beautiful song. I don't have access to sing in a big choir any more, but this makes me miss it.

Your ladies look lovely in their red.

Have a blessed Advent and Christmas, my dear friend!

Dear Amrita
Whenever I see a rose, I think of Jesus who is the Rose of Sharon!

Song of Solomon 2:1
I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys.

"He's the lily of the valley,
The bright and morning Star,
He's the Fairest of ten thousand to my soul!

This song is ringing in my soul since I read your lovely post..Love Terry

I too can 't take very high notes Fekisol, Mrs Harper made me sing alto.

This song has such a haunting melody and the words too are lovely.

He 's the Rose of Sharon.

There is another carol describing Jesus as the Apple Tree. I must post it too. I have it on tape sung by Aled Jones.

Oh yes Julia, I haven 't done any Christmas shopping yet and my wallet is much lighter. Have to economize heavily this year. Will try homemade stuff and concentrate on giving stuff to people who are really needy, important grieving (those who have lost loved ones recently) I too lost 4 dear ones this year, so i know what alonely Christmas is like.

Janet, I feel for you my dear, losing Mummy and Daddy both.

Amrita, I love the new look on Yesus Garden, especially the new banner. The flowers are beautiful! Yes, the holidays are difficult for those who have lost loved ones this year. I think about all the families affected at Mumbai. But Christ came to swallow up death, so we grieve with a baseline of faith, knowing we will see our loved ones again. Peace and comfort to you, dear Sister!
