Movie Makers

In 2004 my two cousin sisters made a movie called "Little Box of Sweets" They also acted in it. Some of the sequences were shot on our campus. In the photo below you can see part of our house.

Here the actors and crew are sitting on the parsonage steps. The girls are my cousins.

Set near the city of ALLAHABAD in North India in the early 70's/ mid 80's, the film brings to life a rainbow of characters from different backgrounds and a small fading Anglo Indian Community. The common thread of - love, friendship - celebrations and tears - nothing says it better than 'LITTLE BOX OF SWEETS'.

It was very interesting to watch the shooting (the aesthetic not the violent kind LOL)take place. But we all had to be very quiet and keep our 2 excited dogs calm too. They borrowed my coffee mugs and tray to use as props.

I must say making a film is very hard work. Perfection doesn 't come easily. In fact the ground work is very un-glamorous and tedious.

This film is a very good reflection on the Christian community of North India, relations between the East and West and ordinary Indian life.

This so interesting, Amrita! Maybe with "Slumdog Millionaire" doing so well, "Little Box of Sweets" will get more attention. I would LOVE to see it. Do you get royalties for "product placement" on the coffee mugs? What a great adventure!

Hello dear Amrita! How are you today?

Very interesting post on this movie and I'd surely love to see it. My oldest son was a drama major in college and so enjoyed acting, but it was a lot of hard work, just as you say, even though he never made a movie - only theatre and plays.

Praying for you today.
hugs,
Vicki

Dear Amrita,
Your life is quite some story book.
Thank you for sharing.
You are making my horizon broader, and I did actually not know it was that kind of an ignorant.
Now I feel I know something behind the facade, a little about what living in India must be like.
You are a skilled teacher, Amrita dear.

It's nice to be a part of a wonderful movie even if it is just your house that was made as props. You should have appeared on it too, hehehe, lol, you might have been discovered by Bollywood. I'm just joking. Anyway, it's nice to reminisce on those wonderful days. Thanks for the post. God bless you always my friend.

Hi Amrita, thanks for sharing this. I know that there is a strong Christian community in many parts of India. In Switzerland many years ago I attended a month long life revision retreat and some of the closest friends I made there were from India. Some of them were doctors working among the poorest of the poor. I even had a chance to put on your national dress, the sari, complete with bangles and all. Lovely, lovely, talented, and gifted people!

Dear friends watching the filming being done was quite a new experience for me too. There was such a large group of people involved.
I am sure they have DVDs of the movie.Sita

No Gail, it was a family affair so it was all free.

Lidj, I am sure you looked like the real Crown of Beauty in a sari.
