Sunday Blessings - Cookout

On Saturday evening our Pastor and his wife popped in to invite us for Sunday lunch along with all other church members and guests. In India you can get surprise invitations like these.
We had a worship and communion service. There were about 30 people present.

A young man escorting my mother

Pastor Shay tending the cookout fire.
On the menu was rice pilaf, chicken curry salad and nan bread.

Students helping to prepare the salad.
We had a good time of fellowship.
"Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. " Hebrews 10;25 (New Testament)

Amrita, I am always struck by the spontaneity of fellowship in your country. Around here, there would have been at least two committee meetings and a vote by the board of elders to have such a gathering - well, not really that bad, but we definitely could use a little less planning and a little more fellowship. Thanks for sharing!

The picture of the food is so colorful and beautiful. I enjoy this type of fellowship here in Mexico as well. People just drop in and ask you over or they come and bring food. It's so natural and relaxed.

The food looks wonderful, but it's the fellowship I think would be the best thing. I miss that kind of socializing.

So glad you had a wonderful time.

Gail's comment made me chuckle..it is so true..in the west, we have so many meetings! Ugh! I like your kind of meetings better..with lots of yummy food...such great pics...
I really like that one with the guy escorting your Mom..I can just hear him saying..."Watch your step, Auntie..."

I have a question, where do you 'store' your pics...my digital camera conked out a while back, but I need to get another, God willing...your pics allow us to hae a real glimpse of life as we do not know it...

...so glad many more people will be popping by to 'learn' from you..you are truly a teacher, Amrita, and I am proud to call you 'friend.'

Love,

Dear Amrita
What a nice surprise for you and Mama.
Your pastor is so much like a Christian man we know.
He and his wife had nine kids,
One night after the Gospel meeting, he invited everybody over for a snack.
The whole congregation!.. and there was a lot of people!
This dear man used to go to the market every week and there were many Spanish people there.
He used to invite them ALL, whoever wanted to come to his house for a hearty breakfast and then he would tell them about God's great salvation.
In Welland, we have, as a result of his testimony about twenty people of the Spanish coming and about a dozen of these dear people are saved and in fellowship with the Lord's people.
Who knows how many small churches have been blessed in the same way with these people?
I really loved this post Amrita!
How it makes me hunger for warm weather when we can have some Golden family picnics!...Love Terry

Thank you dear friends for your comments.

Terry, your story is wonderful. My Dad was also like this. Till he was alive and we were financially stronger we have guests at nearly every meal - lunch and dinner.
In the 80s two Kenyans had come to study in India but they were feeling very discouraged and lonely and were planning to return home, someone suggested that they visit our church. We took them home for lunch and fellowship and they changed their minds and stayed on for 3 or 4 years till they finished their university education. We have so many stories, but I don 't want to appear to be boasting. All glory belongs to God.

Hi Healing Jake welcome to my blog.
