I Need Your Help!

The neighbourhood boys who were giving us trouble
since ages were not deterred by our newly built
very expensive wall. They broke the glass shards
and even attempted to break the wall.
My nephews told me that they were
hacking at the wall with metal rods.
That was the last straw.
I rang up DIG (Deputy Inspector General) Misra,
who is a family friend and also my
BIL Prem 's tenant.
His wife, Auntie Misra had told me not to hesitate to ask for
help if anyone disturbed our church campus.
I had given repeated warnings to the brats but to no effect.
So I requested the DIG to send his cops
to "tighten" the boys, some of them are as
small as 9 or 10 - little demons.
In a short while a police car roared into our campus
with a posse of policemen and
DIG Misra too.
He is a very highly placed officer,
very humble and of good reputation.
We told him our tale of woe.
He immediately told his policemen
to round up the troublemakers and
give them a strict warning.
I invited him in for a cup of coffee
(he refused the cake as he is a strict
vegetarian- no eggs. Our worker Jags
accompanied the policemen to the area
where the boys live.
Jags told us later on that the entire neighbourhood came
out ,apprehensive at the sight of the police.
The brats ran away and hid in their homes.
The men in khaki issued a warning to the boys
against vandalising the church campus. And
the progenitors were advised to keep their
spawn in check.
We heaved a sigh of relief as the men drove
away -mission accomplished.
Later the Misra family left
on a Hindu pilgrimage this evening.
After this the boys have kept away from our boundary.
It is good to ask for help when needed.
Sometimes I feel very shy
to ask people to help me.

Since the past 2 weeks the North India has been
in the grip of a cold wave.
Temperatures have dipped down to the 50s and 40s
(well below 10* C)
Cold related death toll is rising everyday
this is among the weaker section of society.
Last night and today we had rain
which made us even more miserable.
But what about the poor and unfortunate.
How are they faring?
On Sunday afternoon a poor
hapless widow came at our
door begging for food.
We had just finished our lunch and only
had a few chapatis (griddle bread)left over.
Those we gave her with mango preserve.
She said she was going to feed her hungry
children first and then eat.

They are street people.
She works a little and buys food
for her 4 or 5 children
between the ages of 4 and 10.
(Namrita giving the widow some packages)
She was leaving but we asked
her to stay and I went
and got her some clothes
(from my giving trunk)
and for her children too.
Sonia had left Abner 's old clothes
including woolen sweaters
which we gave her.
She showered many blessings
upon us before leaving.
This was really our Sunday blessing.
________________
Today was a cold dark day.
We had extra long electricity cuts.
Namrita had some dizziness
which signals the onset of a migraine.
She had some medicine and lay down.
She is feeling better now.
Please pray against the migraine.

the gifts you give in Jesus name do not stop with the recipient, but abound and multiply to many and bring praise back to our Father in heaven, the best gift giver of all!

May you know the great love God has for you, this day and every day.

That was so kind of you to give to the poor woman. My Mom was alone with 5 children also and we had to depend on the kindness of strangers until she got a good job. So we all pay it forward by helping back. Hope the little brats stop their thuggery.

Hope it all gets better.

I know that the woman & her family will be much blessed & i hope that you are, even more so.

I enjoyed the story in the previous post about your nephews goading you into cooking for them. :)

And the funny lines from the church bulletins. Many i'd seen before but a few are new & they are always good for a laugh.

Blessing on you dear.

Poor Nam -- those migraines are so miserable. It's my fond wish that they never bother her again.

How kind of you to help that poor widow. People can get so far down that they cannot get themselves back up, especially burdened with children. Yet who could regret that the children were born and live?

I do regret that the bratty and horrid hoodlum children are running loose...how ridiculous of them to target the church grounds, of all places, and such an austere church. Sometimes, people, even kids, are just no durned good. I am so glad the police (we call them "The Law" out here in Texas, lol) came. Nothing like having The Law sic'd on someone to straighten them up.

Dear Amrita,
God bless you tenfold back for helping the poor woman.
How hard it must be, having starving children. A give away trunk is wise. We are collecting clothes for street children in Ukraine. A missionary comes once a year to collect the sacks.
I'll pray for those naughty boys. I think they are not aware of how much damage they are causing.
It is not easy to be light and salt in the world.
Jesus told us to be clever as snakes and simple as doves..

It's a good thing your police officer friend reprimanded the brats who vandalized the premises of your church. Those boys must be disciplined or they will grow up to become future criminals. Giving aid to the needy is a very noble deed. God bless you more for that. Thanks for the feel good post. God bless you all always.

I'm glad you got the situation taken care of with the little vandals. That must be frustrating.

You have a very big heart Amrita - and your family too, for helping the widow and her children. It is what we are called to do. In America, even the poorest of the poor have more than most. It tugs at my heart to see those pictures. God bless you Amrita.

I am so relieved that the police came and issued a stern warning to the street brats.

I wish our life's difficulties could all be solved so easily, but for now, I praise God with you for the protection both from earthly and heavenly authorities.

Your Sunday blessing story has touched my heart. What a good opportunity to share God's love with this poor widow.

Your blog, as always, is a blessing to me each time I get a chance to visit.

Love,
Lidj

It's a shame you have to put up with the persecution of those street kids; let's pray that there will be a St. Paul among them.

Hello Amrita:)

It was very right of you to take prompt action against the culprits who were trying to destroy the wall. The DIG is a wonderful man and a very upright officer. Very often this kind of vandalism happens either because of jealously or instigation by people who don't like the church and its activites. God be praised you took timely action before things went out of control.

You truly displayed your kind and compassionate heart when you gave the poor woman not only food but also clothes. God will surely bless you.

I will surely pray for Namrita to get well.

Lovely photos.

Hope the cold days will soon be over and bright sunshine will come over your city.

Thank you dear friends for your good wishes and comments.

The boys have kept away.

Namrita is feeling better, she a few dizzy spells but praise God they did not develop into migraines.

This morning she was remarking; I am getting so much rest here, don 't know what I will do when I get back home. Full time job plus housework.

I am glad my house is a haven of rest for my sister.
Its a house of freedom too.

Dear Amrita,
Yes, we are under the shivers here in India this time especially in the north. And what with the grahan set today, I wonder what these poor people will do. Maybe at the end of the day they will get a lot of food. Thank God for Hindu superstitions too :))
But, I do feel so sad for the poor. ven the rich old people are falling like nine pins this winter :( What will the poor do?

dearest amrita...you and mama and namrita are such loving gentle souls.
the lord will surely see this and lay it to your account.
i am so surprised that it has been so cold in india. this is not usual is it?
when i read this post and looked at the pictures of this dear elderly lady, i could not help but think of these verses from matthew 25,

"34Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

35For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

36Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

37Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

38When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

39Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

40And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

god bless you amrita!...love terry
