Just got back

I was without my Internet connection since Tuesday and got it back today -Friday
after quite a bit of arm wrestling
figuratively speaking.
We had been getting lots of crank calls,
wackos who figured out that women always answer the phone
and many people were making wrong calls to us
mistaking our number
for the l0cal FM Radio station.
So you can imagine the nuisance.
We had to keep the phone off the hook
for most of the day
and tell everyone to call on my mobile phone.
Anyway, we asked for a new telephone number,
that took 2 days.
The new number had to be configured on my
computr and that took another 2 days,
and several phone calls to various offices.
Anyway slow and steady wins the race, so I am
back in circulation.

Dear Amrita,
India and Norway aren't that different when it comes to technical bureaucracy.
Are you also bothered by telephone salesmen?
I have reserved our number from being called up by salesmen, but some are still trying to come through.
My best advice is letting the telephone hang down, (not put on), and let the caller pay good money for unwanted calls.
Is that nasty??
Maybe, but then again, I am not to be bothered with calls I have reserved against.
Wishing you all well.
From Felisol.

Thankfully here in the States..you can put your phone number on a national Do Not Call list which lasts for 5 years..Thank you, President Bush for that....no more sales calls at all..so nice

Hello Amrita! I'm sorry to hear about your woes but happy you are back up and running. We take so much for granted here in the States - thank you for reminding me to add easy internet access to my gratitude list!

Hi pals,I have a Do Not Disturb status on my mobile phone. But the landline , fixed ohone was the problem.

Its not so much the salesmen, its these lecherous men calling just 3wanting to talk to women. And then people confused our number with the FM station.

Now we are in peace.

Sometimes salespersons call and I refuse them immediately, they know that their company will be penalized if they persist so they don 't call after that.

Yes Felisol, I used to put the phone off the hook to avoid crank calls.

We used to have tons of crank calls in the U.S. until everything became caller-id friendly, and then they stopped probably 99.9% of the time. I wish you could blow a whistle in the phone and give those guys' eardrums a real "treat" when they call up.

Having your internet down is such an aggravation! Your graphics capture the feeling. Glad you are back on line.

Glad to see you back online!
I am on the don't call list too, but it doesn't slow the telemarketers down much....I'm very grateful for caller id, that way I just don't answer if I don't recognize the number..

Without internet is not nice but sometimes it's good to find out how much addicted we are , hahaha.
I have plans to spend less time on the internet, I know it's easier said than done but I want to do more other things.
Anyway I'm glad your connection is ok now.

Ugh! What an ordeal! I feel bad for you. Were the calls intended for the radio station even interesting or amusing?

Wow, sorry to hear about the sales calls.

When the Internet is down at my house, I have to turn on something I use to use long ago called "TV".
I would much rather have the Internet instead.

just say no to internet Explorer...
Mozilla offers Firefox for free and it seems much safer. less likely to get a virus too

Thank for the recommendation David. I tried switching over to Firefox and it wouldn 't download . I think IE prevented it.

Yes Kater we got many funny and amusing calls meant for the radio station. Sometimes people simply begged us to play their request etc. We hated to disappoiunt them.

So glad you're back! We are so used to being online that missing it for a while hurts! Can't imagine days without.

Thanks for stopping by & visiting/commenting at my blog? I've been wondering if things are warmer there now?
