God is Good

Hello friends I want to thank all of you for your notes to me and your prayers.

God is good all the time, even we are walking through the valley of the shadow of death.

We have been receiving messages, emails, and phones calls from friends everywhere. Some I have spoken to after 25 years. Our Christian friends sent emails and SMSs over the Internet and our phone numbers too.. Its been quite overwhelming too.

We missed my sisters Anjali and Namrita and their families, but having Sonia and Avi was a great comfort and support.

Yesterday we had a memorial prayer service for Aunt Virginia.

Aunt V "s debts have to be paid off. God has provided for some of it but still quite a bit is left and I am the only person to clear them. Please pray for God 's provision.,, guidance and wisdom.

Here a another devotional from Joni Earkeckson Tada.

Was Just Wondering

When the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon, she came to prove Solomonwith hard questions at Jerusalem, with a very great company, and camels that barespices, and gold in abundance, and precious stones: and when she was come to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart.--2 Chronicles 9:1 KJV
Our questions haven't changed much since the queen of Sheba's time. Or have they?I recall reading an article not long ago which listed a few questions. I can't rememberthe author, but here are a couple of queries the queen may have missed...
Why do people show great interest in "near death experiences" but no interest in heaven?
What makes God happy?
Why do sinners so often feel attracted to Jesus, but repulsed by the church?
Why do so few Christians get around to reading AleksandrSolzhenitsyn, a writer who sounds like a modern Amos or Isaiah?
Why are there so many kinds of animals?
Couldn't the world get along with, say,300,000 species of beetles instead of 500,000?
Why is it that the most beautiful animals on earth are hidden away from all humans (except those wearing elaboratescuba equipment)?
Who are they beautiful for?
Why is almost all religious art realistic, whereas much of God's creation - zebras, the swallowtail butterfly and crystallinestructures - excels at abstract design?
Are chimpanzees happy like humans when theylaugh and play with one another?
Why did Solomon, who showed such wisdom in writingProverbs, spend the last years of his life breaking a lot of those proverbs?

Here's a question for you. Why, when the gospel is replete with stories of grace, acceptance and forgiveness, do you often feel more guilty than forgiven?
Pause todayand go to God, saying, "Lord, I was just wondering..." and then open your heartto him, as the queen of Sheba did with Solomon. You may be surprised at the answer.
* * * * *
I have many questions, God. Yet the closer I get to you, the more I see how youare all Wisdom. I leave all things with you.

Amrita, you are so very gracious. I pray that things will go smoothly & you will find God's blessings abundant for you.

Our cultures must be very different. I can't imagine being held responsible for an aunt or uncle's debts. I'm so sorry you have this burden & that it may not long hang over you.

Sending you hugs. :)

God knows every secret of life. In the Book of Job He asked Job, where he was, when God had been creating the World.
You and Your family are great. God bless You - I believe that He will comfort You.

Thanks for sharing that devotional, Amrita. I know it reflects the way you are feeling right now with lots of questions.

I have questions, too... not questioning God's wisdom or authority but just somehow wanting to understand how all these hard things fit into His big and wonderful picture. I just can't see it sometimes but wish that I could. Someday...then we will.

You are such a blessing to me even when you don't hear from me often. Prayers today for your joy in Him to bring you strength.

Thank you my dear friends, in times like these we reflect upon the brevity of life and strive to work out our salvation with trembling and fear.

Hello Amrita,

Fist and foremost let me take this opportunity to offer you my belated heartfelt condolences on the passing away of your Aunt Virginia. May God rest her soul in peace. May God grant you and your family the strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss. I am sure you will find some way of settling your aunt's debts. God is always kind and merciful.

It is very interesting to read the questions and the wonderful answer you have provided in the end.

If fact I was touched with the reality of one question which I have myself asked. Why people are attracted to Jesus and the Church repels them? This is absolutely true. It has become the habit of modern priests to live a life of comfort and ease. They have forgotten that Christianity was spread all over the world by great sacrifices. People lived a life of penury and starvation and even gave up their lives to spread the Message of Christ. Yet the modern priests think they are a law unto themselves and they pose as though they are some royalty. They forget that service to the poor and needy is the most essential thing that is required. I have felt and experienced this behavior from priests many times. Of course , I have also been helped by the Church in times of need. But I don't really belong to the poorer sections of the society. The Church gives great importance to rich and powerful people. A priest will not partake food in a poor mans humble dwelling but he will readily go the mansion of a rich man to share his food. A priest will run to greet a rich man where as he will wait for the poor man to wish him first.

Being a devout Catholic I should not say all this. As far as I know my grandfather was a Catholic, my father was a Catholic, I am a Catholic and I have made my Children Catholics but if the Church doesn't change its attitude towards the younger generation I will not be surprised if the younger generation will move away to other religions or become atheists especially so because scientific advances are so rapid and many beliefs are questioned by scientists.

As regards the question that you have posed I must say that I often feel guilty than forgiven. I think this is because since child hood I have been taught that breaking the rules of adults is wrong and I will be punished or reprimanded. Don't do this, don't do that, I have been told repeatedly. If I did any thing against this advice I felt guilty of doing something wrong. No one inculcated the feeling of forgiveness when I was young. But only later on getting to know the New Testament better, I can understand that Our God is a forgiving God. Our sins are forgiven.

Yours is sorrow:)
Joseph

Dear Mr JP, thank you for your detailed and insightful reply. Many people are repulsed by the church because of its short comings. But if we just our eyes on Jesus then everything else will fade away.

In my church we treat everyone alike -the rich and poor. When we have a feast we invite the downtrodden as welll as the well heeled. I like to identity with the poor.
