I enjoy reading blogs, because I can understand and know history and culture other countries. I didn't know about this great day for India. Thank You Amrita! In Poland in this same time there is saint day for Roman Catholic church.

ReplyDeleteHappy Independence Day! An independence achieved beautifully but not without much grief and tears on the parts of those who wanted to be free. Sometimes I think people in the rest of the world too quickly forget the sacrifices of the great leaders AND the common people who envisioned a free India.

Thank you so much Holly, yes my countrymen made many sacrifices to obtain freedom and self rule. Yesterday I watched a movice about Lord Mountbatton- the last Viceroy of India. He was a good man an d very sympathetic towards India, that 's why the king apointed him for the transistion perios and he was aske d to be the governor general later on by the newly formed Indian govermant. Our first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Lady Mountbatton had a romance going on between them acording to popular gossip.
ReplyDeleteAfter this movie I saw Charlie Chaplin 's The Great Dictator- another great flick and then in the end saw Harrison Ford 's Witness ( I saw it years ago) all on cable TV. I love the Amish people.
So that was a quite a movie marathon.
