At the Stroke of the Midnight Hour

The following is an excerpt from the speech given by Jawaharlal Nehru, India 's first Prime Minister, at midnight August 14th 1947, when India got her Independence.
At the stroke of midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, then an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance. It is fitting that at this solemn moment we take the pledge of dedication to India and her people and to the still larger cause of humanity.

At the dawn of history India started on her unending quest, and trackless centuries are filled with her striving and the grandeur of her successes and her failures. Through good and ill fortune alike she has never lost sight of that quest or forgotten the ideals which gave her strength. We end today a period of ill fortune and India discovers herself again.
Here is another video which showcases India.
Happy Independence Day

I LOVED this clip, Amrita, showing the different faces of India. I get miffed when I see India portrayed on shows like Amazing Race where it is so one-sided in a negative way.
Hope you are doing OK.

Our God is mighty and able and He loves Amrita!
Blessings for a great week.
Love, Sita

those are lofty sentiments and good ones, expressed in that speech. I hope that the nation can find a way to hold onto those things and not be sidetracked by the same things that plague the rest of the worldd...would that not be wonderful??!!

Happy Independence Day!

India is such a jewel of a country...I feel the people of India will be called upon to use their considerable brains and talents in the upcoming decades to help advance the world as a whole as well as their own lovely nation...

Dear Amrita,
Freedom is so fundamental to any people, be it the billion in India, or the 5,5 million of Norway.
We all deserve to celebrate our day of independence with great pride and joy.
Globalization means we have to work closely together for both economic and human development.
It can never be obtained if we do not remember that all people are of equal value and should have equal rights.
I congratulate India with her independence from the bottom of my heart.

Happy Independence Day to your country Amrita. The words of Nehru on that first Independence Day are so beautiful. I remember that as first prime minister he was well loved and well spoken of.

I loved the short video clip you posted showing the many faces of India. Deserts, icy mountains, culture, festivals, jungles, rafting, diving, and so much more.

May you continue to enjoy your political freedom. ButI pray that God will bring true freedom in Jesus Christ to your people.

Thanks for asking about Matthew. His medications are now all stopped, and he is recovering fast. Just need to regain his appetite some more, and to regain the weight he has lost.
