Today, 18 years ago my sister Namrita was joined in marriage with Sengrak Marak. It was a thrilling day full of excitement and sad
emotions too as we would be bidding dear Namrita goodbye.
Meghalaya (state) where she made her home with Sengrak is
in the North East of India very far from the plains.
Their culture is very alien to what we are used to.
Kudos to Namrita as she adapted herself
to this foreign culture and lifestyle.
Just like Ruth (of the Bible) she modified herself
to fit in with her husband 's people. And his
family and community adopted her as their own
very proud at the way she stands out among them.
God has blessed them with 2 lovely boys
Mishael soon to be 13 and
Rayguel 9 years old.
Congratulations to Namrita and Sengrak.
"May the lord give you increase
You and your children
May you be blessed
of the Lord
The heavens are the heavens of the Lord
But the earth He has given to the sons of men
May you be blessed of the Lord
(song based on Psalm 115;14-16)

This is Namrita 's favorite tree.
I don 't know what it is called.
But its green foliage is
a reminder that the Lord is a
shade over this family.

This is the area where the Maraks
are building their house
It is a lush green area
It gets plenty of rainfall.
Meghalaya is known for its forest wealth.
agriculture and tea gardens.

This is their plot of land.
A mountain stream flows by it.
They will harvest the water for their garden.

Here is Namrita with Mishael at
the construction site.She has a
traditional hand woven shawl
draped over her shoulders.
Work in progress.

When they were driving down to Guwahati
to get on the train to Allahabad
they took a photo of the beautiful
countryside of Assam (state).

These are pictures of some animals
in the Guwahati Zoo.

Assam has rich rain forests with
all kinds of wild life, the rhino , tiger and elephant
among them. It has a
flourishing timber industry too.
All the North Eastern states are
famous for their handicrafts.
It also has oil fields and mineral wealth.
Assam tea is exported all over the world.
The 4 states of Meghalaya,Nagaland, Mizoram and Manipur are predominantly Christian
Please do pray for the Maraks.
May they always walk in closeness
with the Lord with His shadow over them.
May the children be nurtured and directed in
the ways of the Lord.

Wonderful post, Amrita. I agree with your prayer for your sister's family. You look so much alike! I'm coming back later to look at the video clip--looks really interesting. Thanks, Amrita. I know you are still missing them a lot. Take care.

Gosh, I knew India was big, but I didn't realize just how big!

She is so far away from you -- in miles...very close in your heart, though...

What a gorgeous state she lives in. And they have a beautiful setting for their home.

You two look like 2 peas in a pod, by the way!!!

It looks like your sister picked a great place for a home. Lots of green.
Glad you had a good visit though. I'm thinking she's a quite a distance from you though. But, glad you got a nice long visit.

Amrita,
Just looked at the video. Wow! So interesting. Would love to visit. We've had a choir from Nagaland and a Mizo choir visiting here for Missionfest. This must be close to Tibet/Nepal, right? Looks so 'unreached.'
Don't you and your Mom want to join Namrita there? Anyway, thanks for sharing this.
Love, Sita

Hi Amrita:)

You have a lovely header photo.

The name Meghalaya always left a magical charm in my mind. I don't know some how this word sounds like heaven. A land where clouds meet the land.

Namrita and her family are lucky to live here amidst the lush green surroundings filled with wonderful scenery.

The is video is wonderful.

My prayers and best wishes to Namrita and her family for all happiness and success.

Have a nice day Amrita:)

A most beautiful family! And the land they own is lush and gorgeous as well. I'm happy for your sister and her family and that she is like Ruth from the Bible. Partings are always sad. How long between visits?

Hi Amrita....
It is so beautiful where your sister is living..my question is that I wonder if they are far far away from any cities or if this is just outside of a city ......

Hi Jackie (mother of the lot), so happy to hear from you. Hope you are doing well. I will come by and visit you.

Dear Rebecca, I wish I could come over and cook some Indian food for you. I enjoy cooking for others. If you can get a cook book by Madhur Jaffery you will find it helpful, she writes for the western readers.
My sister lives in a small hill town. Basic stuff is available there, but they have to go down to the plains (6 hrs drive) to medical appointments etc.
