Over the Weekend

Thank you my precious friends
for this blessing
and encouragement.

I have been edified and blessed by what you share
on your blogs. Your blogs are praiseworthy
my sisters.

Our Pastor 's daughter (not pictured)
stopped to pick up bouquets
for her teachers on the way
to the Friday Fellowship meeting

Today, Sept. 5th is celebrated as Teacher 's Day in India
It is the birth anniversary of Dr S Radhakrishnan,
the first Vice President and second President of India.
He was a great educationist and scholar.
Students show their appreciation for teachers by presenting them with cards, gifts and flowers.
These lines from in Sanskrit poem (our ancient language) express it well.
"Vidhya ddhati vinyam vinayyat yaat
patratam'".
Learning gives one humility.
From humility one begets character.

Kids at the fellowship meeting.
The grandparents of the girl and boy on either
side are not dedicated Christians although they
"believe" in Christ in their own way.
This old couple also came for the meeting and afterwards shared
how their born-again son and daughter-in-law
are the only ones who feed and take care of them.
Their other sons don 't bother about them much although they live in the same house with them.
This is a great testimony for the love of Christ.

Got a snap of these parrots in their house.
I don 't like to cage birds.
Its not fair to our feathered friends
and I hate to see them locked up .
Now we have animal friendly zoos
otherwise I would hate to see wild animals
incarcerated.

Amrita, as a TEACHER, this day is in honor of you! I know you touched many lives in the classroom and now, although your vision, hearing, and health have removed you from the classroom, you are STILL every inch a teacher, here in the virtual world.

Happy Teacher's Day Amrita!

Dear Amrita,
Visiting your blog is such a great way to know more about your country and culture.

I love the pictures you post, too.

So informative, and yet able to give the reader an insight into your own heart -- your perspective, how you feel...

You are a teacher at heart, Amrita. You are very organized and systematic in the way you try to share about many things about life in India through your blog!

Oh, I don't like to see caged birds too. so heartbreaking...

Love
Lidj

Congratulations on your newest awards. You truly deserve them all. I share with your feelings about caged birds and animals. We can place them in a bigger and freer open spaces wherein people can enjoy watching them and they can at least have enough ample space to move on and do their thing. Thanks for the post. God bless you always.

Congratulations on Teacher's Day!
Do you miss being in the classroom Amrita? Or have you found other outlets that are fullfilling and also full of joy??

Thank you very much dear friends for your input and observations.

I am a teacher by profession and enjoyed my teaching years.Interacting with young people gave me life and energy.

But you know all of us a teachers, because our lives ar like a book someone maybe reading.

Yes Rebecca I miss my teaching days a lot.

I called up Namrita a while ago and she said they had a nice Teacher 's Day celebration in the school where she teaches.
Some of her students gave her lovely gifts like ,small bowls and plates, a fruit bowl, two lovely purses. (she used to carry her lunch box in a plastic bag so a student gave her) a nice carry bag. She also got lots of flowers real and artificial and cards etc. Nice isn 't it.
The school hosted a grand lunch for the teachers.

I am glad she had fun. She is better too.

Hi Amrita:)

Greetings:)

Kindly accept my hearty congratulations for these lovely awards. You deserve them. Your tireless efforts to provided so much information on a regular basis is highly praiseworthy and worthy of applause. It is amazing to see that you pack so much information in each post.

I almost forgot about Dr.Radhakrishnan until today when you mentioned his name. When I was in school this was a really a great celebration.

As regards caged parrots it is necessary to educate people. Not only parrots there are other birds which are kept in cages. In Kochi there are many pet shops and these birds( love birds etc.) are being sold along with cages. Many times I have thought of buying love birds and keeping them in my house. But some how I have not bought so far.

My best wishes and prayers to you and your family:)
Joseph
