CWG 2010- WELCOME TO DELHI

After yesterday 's adrenalin rush , nervous anticipation and smouldering suspense things have been peaceful. No unpleasant incident has been reported and today was a normal day although security forces will be in place for a week or so because sometimes wounds fester slowly.

The Muslim Board has indicated that it wants to approach the Supreme Court. They have a period of 3 months to do that , until then the court has declared status quo on the situation.

The common man had generally accepted the verdict. But its the self serving politicians and fundamentalist leaders from both sides who are flashing their colors. But seems the case has moved one step forward. But I hope that th e majority fundamentalists don 't use this judgement as a whip to flay the minorities.

Now everyone is looking forward to the grand opening of the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi on Oct 3rd. After the initial hitches and glitches, lapses and collapses, scams and slams Delhi opens her arms wide open to receive international guests and athletes from 71 countries. There is excitement in the air hedged by tight security measures of course.

Here is more information from Wikipedia.
The 2010 Commonwealth Games will be the nineteenth Commonwealth Games, and the ninth to be held under that name. The Games are scheduled to be held in New Delhi, India between 3 October and 14 October 2010. The games will be the largest multi-sport event conducted to date in Delhi and India, which has previously hosted the Asian Games in 1951 and 1982.

The opening ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the main stadium, in Delhi. It will also be the first time the Commonwealth Games is held in India and the second time the event has been held in Asia (after 1998 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia).

The preparations for the games received criticism in news media due to issues including: bad weather, infrastructural compromise, preparation delays (in particular, that of the Games Village[2][3]), the withdrawal of prominent athletes,[4] and allegations of widespread corruption.[5] However no nations have withdrawn and the games have not been postponed.

Glad to know your mom is fine, dear.
Thanks for the information on CWG.I was sad to read only negative news about it for the past few weeks.

DEar Amrita,
I'm relaxed to hear the good news about your mother.
Also I feel relatively calm about the religious/political situation in India.

I am actually amazed to learn that there still are 71 nations belonging to the Commonwealth.
Quite a good thing for maintaining peace around the world.
I expect the games will become great entertainment.

You wrote very good news - it is so great, that this situation finished well. Your Mum must be very happy with all family. It's only pity, that there is no Polish team in Delhi. Photos showed me very modern city.

Dear Kidj,Gerry, Meryy Lynn,Ash, Zimb, Felisol an d Dr MD, I reall appreciate your comments.

Yes Nia there has bee such a bad publicity around the games and Kalmadi & Friends, Sheila Dixit & Co., Messrs MS Gill are responsible for it.Mani Shankar Aiyyar has abandoned ship an d fled to London. Salman Rushdie said that Bhanot should be spanked for his statement about hygiene standards. He is right. Any way I want to concentrate on the positive side.

But one thing I must say that some of the CW countries responded to the games set up in a colonial manner. Now they are OK.

Hi Felosol, that 's why they say that the sun never set on the British Empire.

Dear Facing 50, Welcome to my blog, having a friend on th e team is so great. Hope your friend i s having a good time in Delhi.I like your blog. I am also approaching half a century , so your blog is relevant and interesting for me. I will be your visitor.

Dear Lidj, thank you for your prayers. We 've been through a turbuent time and the good sense of my countrymen prevailed . Today ((ct 2nd) is Gandhi 's birth anniversary- the UN ha s declared it a the Day for Non Violence. I shall do a post about it.

Dear Gerry, hope Doc is doing better. Glad his daughter visited him. I wanted to watch the last videos, but they were taking too long, I will try again.

Hi Amrita,
Your blog posts are always so informative and interesting! this is no exception to that!

FYI -- not sure if you have started to use feedlooks.com as a blog tracker -- I have realized they do fall short of consistently being counted on to update properly! I found two new posts of yours today that didn't show up there! But I still find them the best replacement for bloglines. I'm assuming they might be having an overload right now with bloglines users making the switch to them.
