Cold Comfort

Good news first.
Yesterday I got blood work
done on my Mom and myself and
the results came out safe.
Nothing to worry about
Now I will take the reports to my family doc
Just have to get my blood pressure checked.
No ,No my Doc doesn 't look like that.
Its just that I don 't want to end up like that-
Although Sheeba would be pleased, I am joining her
ranks.
So prevention is better than cure

Not so good news.

My cold 's got to my beak.
When I have a cold

I want to camp out in

But

So I brewed tea with
regular tea leaves
black basil (tulsi)
ginger
a few peppercorns
and sweet jaggery we call gur
(its made with sugarcane juice and its
a better option if one wants to avoid sugar)
and added milk to it.

I made moong dal with tomato, seasoned
with onion, garlic curry leaves, fresh coriander and Maggi seasoning. When I have a cold I like
moong dal (lentil)
and other comfort food like
boiled potato
Maggi noodles
cheese or egg sandwich
and chicken soup.
I made some tomato/spinach soup
(fresh from the garden)
and popped in chicken seasoning.
I guess it will take a few days to recover.
The medicines make me drowsy.
What 's your cold comfort?

My comfort is hot tea with honey. Warm milk with honey.
And snuggling with my "honey".

I would love for you to share this soup recipe on my food blog http://moderationrecipes.blogspot.com

If you want me to feature it, email it to me : asmurphy@clearwave.com

Amrita, my nephew, who is visiting us for a while, woke up this morning with a sore throat and a headache. I made him hot tea with honey, lemon, and ginseng.

Praying for your comfort, relief, and complete healing!

I have been baking breads for distribution for weeks now and I am running out of things to add to the breads to make them tastier. Now I've just decided to make some tomato spinach breads, excellent suggestion. Thank you. :-)

Sorry you aren't feeling well, but I'd say those comfort foods will help. I like Farina and a cat on my lap when not feeling well.

I am down to Doc's where I can see your colorful blog in all its glory much better. (his computer is newwer and more expensive than mine) I love hearing about your garden in India and your spices. Your comfort foods sounds so healthy for you. I used to make homemade noodles for my chicken soup cold comfort, but now I am a vegan I love a wonderful hummus I get to this one store and their chips and soup made with sauteed onion and canned tomatoes. I put some high protein macaroni and sprinkle soy cheese on it. So good. I was raised on this, only tomatoes were fresh and cheese was rich. Gerry

I wish that cold would let go of you!

You have had it quite long enough! I was hoping the antibiotics would chase it away quickly.

I also make a very heavily spiced tea when I am sick, with lots of cloves floating in it. It sounds a bit like your tea.

I think you have a very good idea about eating well when sick. I know you don't feel like it, but if you are able to eat these good foods, you will recover faster.

You know I wrote out seperate replies to each of you and just as I was going to publish them, the lights went out. I have afew minutes of battery back up on my computer but my internet goes off immediatly. Here goes again.

Hi Kathryn, I too love lemon tea with sugar, its got all kinfs of health benefirts. Thank you for your prayers.

Love your spinach and tomato bread Mary. Oh I wish i could give you loads of my tomatoes to bake with. The people who receive your specially baked bread will really enjoy this flavor I know.

Hi Gerry, I got the novel you sent today, thank you so much I love them.
Say hi to Doc. I was about to visit your blog and just opened it when the lights went out. Today we had some rain so the light went out quite a bit. They kind of blibk and spoil every thing.

Hi Dame Penni, spice tea is very popular in India. We add sugar and milk to it.The meds make me drowsy. I 'll get over it.If your cute bunnies came into my garden they would gobble up my cabbage and spinach I am sure.

I'm glad you don't have strep and you and your mothers blood work is all ok.
Hopefully your cold will leave you fast.
Hubby makes me moong dal when he thinks I'm not feeling well, and his Indian tea. He makes his with cardamon and cloves.
If he's got a cold I make him my homa made chicken noodle soup and tea the way he makes it.
I never got your email addy so here's mine. Craryville7@aol.com

first of all, I'm 45 years old and I call "Mom" crazy, I know, but I love homemade chicken soup with fresh bread, OR Hot Tea with honey and lemon, m m m m m,Hope you get to feeling better soon, my daughter is sick, she's got a fevor and a cough, I'm thinking allergies? but she's got this disease called "Ebesteinbars" (spelling is wrong)but if she gets a cold or the flu, it can put her in the hospital, where as me, I can fight it off, it weakens her immune system, so I have to have a careful eye on her. You get well my friend....
Hugs~

I hope you get well soon too. I am just getting over a cold too. I gargle mouthwash to (hopefully) kill the germs in my throat and I use Vicks vap-o-rub type thing that really helps a lot.
Blessings!

Hi Amrita :)

Very lovely and attractive design to your blog.

Sorry to hear you are not keeping well.

I like your resourcefulness . Instead of feeling sorry for your self, you making special tea, dal and soup. Looks delicious. I wish I was there to taste it.

I hope and pray you will recover soon.

Best wishes
Joseph :)

Hi Madison, hope you got my email. In India moong dal is considered to be easy to digest, so when one is unwell, it is recommended. You can make kitchrie also with rice.
Hi Aphra, I gargle with lukewarm salty water, it helps a lot.

Joseph sir if you ever came to my house I will feed you much more than dal and soup. i will make biryani and korma for you. I love Kerala food by the way.How is the election senario there? Hear Shashi Tharoor is the Congress candidate from Kochi. I am his great fan. Please vote for him. Here Varun Gandhi is making waves, as you must have heard.

Thrilled to have you visit Buttercup. You have a lovely blog too.

Dear Sincerity, I enjoyed the video you created. That is a lovely song, so meaningful. Thank you for your comment.

Hi Doc MD I have never tried cetzine. I must try it. I am taking Crocin, when I feel too bad and Himalaya 's Steptilin. I 've got backache now.I wish I were close by to consult you. My doc friend Shrley (she is also from kerala)lives miles away, but we talk on the phone.Your advise is right.

I would do the same John...make everyone miserable, but I only have my Mom and Sheeba...so what to do? LOL

Hello Darga, actually i just used that picture. We have indian Nescafe -instant coffe which i like.
