7/7/07 New 7 Wonders

The new 7 wonders of the world are

The Taj Mahal of India
The Great Wall of China
Petra in Jordan
The Colosseum in Rome
Brazil 's statue of Christ the Redeemer
Peru 's Machu Picchu
Mexico 's Chichen Itza pyramid
I just wish the Egyptian pyramids were on it.If I ever win any money in the game show 'Who wants to be a Millionaire ' I will go on a world tour of all the 7 wonders.

All India is celebrating the inclusion of the 'elegy in marble ' the Taj Mahal in the list of the 7 wonders of the world. It was built by the Mogul Emperor Shah Jehan as a grave for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal in 1653.It took 22 years to complete with a workforce of 20,000 people, many of whom were brought from far off places. It cost 32 million rupees to build it. What would be the present day value is unimaginable.

The exquisite carvings and lattice work and the centotaph. Legend has it that after the mausoleum was completed the emperor had the hands of the master craftsmen cut off so that they would not be able to replicate their work for another aspirant. The descendants of the sculptors live in Agra , the town where the Taj is located.
Indian Nobel Laureate, Rabindranath Tagore likened the Taj Mahal to a teardrop that glistens "spotlessly bright on the cheek of time".
I must dig out an old photo of mine at the Taj Mahal.

Hi Amrita,
Beautiful that Indian buildings and there colours Wow!

The Pyramides' aren't on the list, they are "above" voting because they are "a wonder' already.(I heard that on TV).

Great! I hope you win the lottery once, so you can visit all wonders? We visited 3 'wonders' already; The Roman colloseum, Mexican Chichen Itza & the Egyptian Pyramides, but I would love to visit the others.

JoAnn with greetings

I agree with the pyramides but I find the Taj Mahal the most beautiful building on earth, I only know it from photographs.

I would love to see all of these too and yes, the Pyramids should be on the list but I think it won't hurt their reputation so to speak :)
Thank you so much for your wonderful comment.
