Summer Poems

In the scorching 110* (44*) heat
our flowers are struggling
to survive.

Last evening I gave them
a spray wash
and wrote a few lines which came to mind.

My innocent flowers
fade like fragile paper
in the summer furnace
They bravely keep their
delicate hues
Drinking in leftover
freshness from the air
You and I both wait for the sun to
make its journey
southwards
When we shall get our colors back.

These flowers are called ever-spring
or sada-bahaar in Hindi.
They bloom all year round and in various colors too.

My amaryllis is droopy
My niece Mahima a sprightly, energetic and super-achiever 16 year old
she wrote this poem for her English class The Summer Love will Keep us Warm
by Mahima Premkumar

The times of the best season
is undoubtedly summer without a reason!
The flowers bloom.
The bees and birds zoom,
past the clear blue sky.
It brings me bliss and happiness, I mustn’t lie.
The golden rays bathes my skin
and my heart is content within.
laying on the lush, green grass
I never want summer to pass.
You’ll never procrastinate and want to lament,
as there is never a dull moment.
soak up the sun,
live every moment to the fullest and have some fun.
But remember,
“The tans will fade, but the memories will last forever.”- Unknown

I love the flowers in your garden Amrita. Do you also go frolicing in the water to cool off ? I can't imagine coping with the kind of temperatures you are having . God bless you....and your computer.

How strange that your flowers wilt because of the heat and my flowers will wilt because of the frost...

Your niece is beautiful!

I can't believe it is 113 degrees there, as that is unusually hot for Phoenix where we average around 110 in the hot months. I do remember a 122 day and that it was tough. But I do like your niece's attitude of enjoying and even embracing summer nethertheless. Very nice if you can do it. Gerry

Now where is Mahima in those pics? It would seem to me that water would be a bit frosty! But I'm with her in bringing on the summer! I can't wait to be free of my windbreaker!

Love your photos and your poem, Amrita! And, your niece is beautiful (and so gifted, too).

And, yes! I can't wait until we all get our color back ... when we leave the gray of this temporal earth and move into the Lord's eternal techni-color!!

Dear Amrita,
Two wonderful poems, Tempting blue sea and best of all the ever-spring, sada-bahaar.
45 C is too much for me.I have experienced it both in Italy and London. Puh.
Give me 25 C any time and life is perfect.

I'd be right there in the water with those young ladies! Three inches of snow beats the heat you and your poor flora are enduring. Thank you for the lovely poems - the gift for words appears to run in the family. Hope you and your mother are well. I've missed coming by to visit the past few weeks - I feel so blessed to have a like-minded sister living so far away from here.

Oh Amrita, your garden is lovely, but my heart feels very tender towards it, struggling and struggling in the heat...I know exactly how you and the garden feel, we are 100 here now...I pull the shades down, try to keep it cool as possible, and the cats and dogs sprawl on the floor, trying to put as much stomach as possible against the tiles...and we have a LONG way to go, don't we, before it cools off!!! Oh my!

Your niece is so lovely! And what a talent. She got it from her aunt, your poem is lovely too!

It's raining here today, but it's not cold at all, in fact it's rather nice, suppose to rain tomorrow as well, I LOVE the rain, I wish I lived some where it rained allot. You keep cool my friend.

A lovely series of summer! Your niece is beautiful, and her poem to! Here we just have spring, and had a beautiful warm (up to 20 dg C)spring day yesterday. 1st of May is a day off here (Labourers day). The warmest temperature I've experienced is about 37 degrees - in Haifa last spring. That was all to much for me. I understand that you don't feel comfortable with your 45 degrees either - even if you are used to it.
Have a nice week-end!

Oh, the heat sounds brutal. I hope you get some relief - even a gentle breeze would help I am sure.

Mahima is beautiful, but you already knew that - and she obviously gets her poetic skills from her aunt. You both write very moving poetry.

I enjoyed the flowering pictures, but love the niece shot best. She looks so lovely. HMM, do you have a favorite niece, could it be this one?

I hope some of your flowers survived the heat, & you too. ~Mary

Thank you for your sweet comments friends.
Since my childhood right through student days i wrote many poems and songs. I think it was emotional release too. I have books full of them. whenever i felt any pressure or stress out came a poem.
But i was too shy to share them with anyone.

Mahima is great. She appreciates all your comments. She is the only gal the rest are boys...4 of them.
